Befuddling<\/span> or not, there\u2019s no doubt the CCS plays a vital role in creating more accessible care for Australian families. Whether you\u2019re a new-comer or simply recalculating your benefits, we can all do with some help navigating these waters.<\/p>\n<p>Never fear! We are here to break down the details and show how you can understand (and maximise) your subsidy &#8211; perhaps even sneaking in another day for your Champ.<\/p>\n<h2>Calculating your Child Care Subsidy<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First things first &#8211; what is Child Care Subsidy? Well, it\u2019s a system through which the government allocates funds in order to bring down the cost of certain services for families who meet certain requirements. It takes the form of a percentage by which a price can be decreased, and this percentage can go up to 85%.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The g<\/span>overnment calcuates your Child Care Subsidy based on:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Total Family Income<\/li>\n<li>Hours of Care Required<\/li>\n<li>Hourly Rate<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It should also be noted that children have to be 13 or younger, not in secondary school and properly immunised in order to be eligible for CCS.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Total family income<\/h2>\n<p>Your <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Child Care Subsidy p<\/span>ercentage is calculated based on your family&#8217;s total income. These numbers change with the CPI increase each year. Benefit holders who earn below this are exempt.<\/p>\n<h2>Hours of care required<\/h2>\n<p>Your required care hours are based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humanservices.gov.au\/individuals\/services\/centrelink\/child-care-subsidy\/how-much-you-can-get\/your-activity-level-affects-it\"><em><u>Activity Levels &amp; Hours <\/u><\/em><\/a>of the <strong>least<\/strong> active member of your family per fortnight.<\/p>\n<h3>What counts towards your <em>Active Hours<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humanservices.gov.au\/individuals\/services\/centrelink\/child-care-subsidy\/how-much-you-can-get\/your-activity-level-affects-it\/recognised-activities\"><em><u>recognised activities<\/u><\/em> <\/a>will count towards your active hours. Centrelink will determine the hours of Child Care Subsidy you are eligible for based on these.<\/p>\n<p>Activity counts as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Paid or unpaid work (including self employment or a family business)<\/li>\n<li>Unpaid work experience or internship<\/li>\n<li>Actively setting up a business (eligible for 6 months each year)<\/li>\n<li>Up to 6 months of paid or unpaid leave (including parental or maternity leave)<\/li>\n<li>Studying an approved course<\/li>\n<li>Training to improve work skills or employability<\/li>\n<li>Looking for work<\/li>\n<li>Volunteering<\/li>\n<li>Reasonable travel time from childcare to your activity and back<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Exceptions from the Activity Test<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>If you spend 8 hours per fortnight volunteering or looking for work you can access up to 36 subsidised hours a fortnight.<\/li>\n<li>You may access 100 hours of subsided care if you are a grandparent and the principal carer of a child.<\/li>\n<li>In the year before they start school, preschool aged children can access 36 hours of subsidised care per fortnight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Maximising your Activity Hours<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re concerned that your activity hours won\u2019t cover the care you require, keep in mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You calculate your activity based on a 13 week period.<\/li>\n<li>Workers whose hours vary, are entitled to use your highest level of activity.<\/li>\n<li>You can change your activity hours at any time on <a href=\"https:\/\/my.gov.au\/LoginServices\/main\/login?execution=e1s1\"><u>MyGov<\/u><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Only around 10% of benefit holders may be asked to provide evidence for their activity hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Speak to your Director about volunteering at your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindchamps.org\/au\/early-learning\/our-centres\/\"><u>local MindChamps<\/u><\/a> to increase your hours of activity.<\/p>\n<h2>Hourly rate<\/h2>\n<p>Your rate of reduction is based on the <strong>lowest rate<\/strong>, either the service\u2019s or the capped hourly rate.
